magandá magazine, issue 24: Anonymous «
magandá magazine was born from a literary tradition of trailblazing. Drawing inspiration from Filipino and Fil-Am writers like Dr. Jose Rizal, Paz Marquez Benitez, Estrella Alfon, Jose Garcia Villa, Ninotchka Rosca, Jessica Hagedorn, and the Kearny Street Workshop Writers, our past staffs have tackled issues on war (issue 16), political and social activism (issue 20), family and blood (dugo, issue 15).
This year, in our 24th issue, we ask our community of readers and writers to explore the meanings and implications of anonymity. Our theme, Anonymous, is a call to imagine a state of ambiguity that both frees and changes us. As our Call For Submissions states, “we ride the lines between choosing and being chosen to be unnamed. In the process, we muddle the facts that establish anonymity as beneficial or harmful. Conflicting ideas about our own identity arise as we try to find who we are and who we want to be.”
In the spirit of anonymity, we’ve created a space where you can make anonymous confessions, thoughts, ideas. They can be light-hearted, serious, nonsensical— anything. These submissions will be used in our next issue and by submitting something you agree to have these confessions published in {m}agandá’s 24th issue. But don’t worry, it’s anonymous ;)
